The PADI Gold Open Water course is the worlds most recognised diver qualification. During the dive course you will be diving to a maximum depth of 18m, in the best available conditions in the area . PADI dive course uses the Buddy system, which means that we always dive with someone else regardless of the conditions and at Wilderness Sea n’ Ski we fully support this. During your PADI Open Water course you will learn the fundamentals of scuba, including practical techniques and dive theory, and give you skills necessary to enjoy countless dives or to further your education.
All your theory knowlege can now be done on line at your own pace, Once you have booked in you will be given a pin to log on and begin. When finished just complete you knowlege review and quick quizzes on line . Its that easy Come to the shop for a knowlege review Thursday evening before to make sure you fully understand everything, meet your instructor and get geared up.
On the first Saturday you will learn your scuba diving skills . Basics of gear assembly, to the more advanced skills such as mask clearing and removing and replacing dive equipment underwater. There is a natural progression with skill development, each one builds on the last so you gain confidence at a your own pace. There will always be enough time to practice your skills before the next step. It’s all about fun and safety. So if you can swim 200 meters using any stroke, un timed, and then stay afloat for 10 minutes, you will be your ready for the next step.
Upon successful completion of confined water training you are ready to go scuba diving. There are 4 open water dives to complete and these will be conducted in the ocean in calm protected areas. Popular dive sites include La Parouse and Shellharbour. Our instructors know these areas extensively and upon showing competence demonstrating the skills you learned in the pool, some time is put aside to explore the local sites, you will always under the supervision of our PADI dive instructors and divemasters. Before you know it you will be certified as a PADI Scuba Diver. Minimum Age: from 15 years
Junior Open Water Course - Ages 13 to 14 accompanied by an adult on course
Maximum Depth: 18 m
After completing your e-learning online theory you will be required to meet in store Thursday evening before the weekend to meet and greet your instructor plus go over your knowlege review and discuss the weekend diving. You will also be issued your wetsuit, BCD, weightbelt, tanks & Regulators for the weekend's dives.
Saturday morning is the confined water Training, Saturday afternoon 2 ocean dives, Sunday 2 Ocean dives. Location and time to meet will be discussed on the prior Thursday evening when in store.

Remember all scuba diving courses are performance based, so you will need to reach the required standards before you can get certified. At Wilderness we will endeavour to give you all the time you need to reach these standards. Participants under 16 have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Want to go further in your dive education and training?
The next step would be the Advanced Open Water Course, where you could try different types of diving, including a deep dive, and become qualified to dive to 30m, as an open water diver, you can also enrol onto PADI Specialties like Peak Performance Buoyancy, Enriched Air Diver and many more.
